Secondary School Teacher Beaten To Death By Student Parent Over Stolen Palmwine At Agbor Delta State

A tragic event has shaken Alihami Mixed Secondary School in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. Academic operations were halted after a teacher, Mr. Sunday Ufuah, was allegedly assaulted by a parent. The incident unfolded on a fateful Wednesday when reports emerged that several students had trespassed the school's perimeters to steal palm wine from a nearby store.

According to an unidentified source, some of the students ventured to a shop situated at the school's rear and pilfered palm wine. Upon learning of this transgression, the school authorities identified the culprits and took disciplinary action against them. Subsequently, a Junior Secondary School 1 student reported to his father that he had been reprimanded by the teacher.

In response to his son's claim, Mr. Nweke, the parent in question, stormed the school premises in a fit of rage, wielding a cane. He proceeded to physically assault and strike some of the teachers. Tragically, Mr. Ufuah, a Physics teacher at the school, collapsed during the altercation and succumbed to his injuries before reaching Agbor General Hospital.

In the wake of this appalling incident, the school's educators organized a protest the next day to express their sorrow and condemnation of the loss of their fellow staff member. The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the occurrence and announced that the suspect was under arrest, with investigations ongoing.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, vehemently denounced the attack, labeling it as an excessive act committed by an irresponsible parent. She conveyed the state government's unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for Mr. Sunday Ufuah's family.

Ezewu articulated, "The Ministry of Secondary Education shares in your sorrow over the passing of your colleague, Mr. Ufuah, a composed, intelligent, and devoted educator known for his positive influence on society. I resonate deeply with your grief, considering Mr. Ufuah's role in the teaching profession. The increasing lack of responsibility in our society, to the extent that parents now invade schools to assault their children's teachers for corrective measures, is deeply concerning."

She continued, "Those who do not wish for their children to be instilled with good morals should keep them at home. Given his dedication to his duty, his children will receive a scholarship that covers their secondary education."
