In a recent incident that underscores the importance of vigilant community policing, operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, successfully thwarted a kiddnapping attempt in Akure, the state capital. The suspect, disguised as a scavenger, had abducted an eight-year-old girl and concealed her in a sack after employing what seemed to be charms.

The audacious act took a turn when the young girl's cries alerted her grandmother, who quickly raised the alarm. Amotekun operatives swiftly responded to the distress call, apprehending the suspected kiddnapper and rescuing the child.

Mr. Bose James, the father of the victim, recounted the harrowing experience: "It was my mother who 'shouted for help' that made me rush there, and before I could get there, he had hit my mother with a heavy wood on her chest while she was struggling to rescue my child from him."

State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, highlighted the crucial role played by vigilant residents in thwarting the crime. He explained that the suspect, posing as a scavenger, attempted to flee with the girl, but the grandmother's alertness prevented his escape.

Adeleye cautioned parents and guardians to be vigilant, emphasizing that individuals posing as scavengers may have ulterior motives. He urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly.

"Like we have been telling members of the public, we remain resolute and committed to the provision of adequate security of lives and property to residents in Ondo State," Adeleye assured. He encouraged residents to share timely information, contributing to the state's safety.

In conclusion, this incident serves as a stark reminder for parents and guardians to keep a watchful eye on their children, especially in public spaces. Vigilance and community collaboration are vital in ensuring the safety of our communities. As Amotekun continues its efforts to maintain security, residents are urged to remain proactive in safeguarding their loved ones from potential threats.
