A mentally disturbed man, seeking deliverance in an undisclosed church in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, violently attacked a fellow worshiper with a cutlass during a deliverance session conducted by the pastor. The incident occurred on Sunday, prompting the mentally ill individual to be taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation, while the injured victim received medical attention and is reportedly responding well.

Sources within the church revealed that the pastor, claiming he could heal the mentally ill man, initiated prayers during which the violent altercation transpired. The man, in a struggle with the pastor and other church members, seized a cutlass from the altar and inflicted a deep injury on a worshipper.

Relatives of the mentally disturbed individual have been summoned for interrogation, as confirmed by the State Police Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga. The church owner was arrested for further investigation into the incident.

In light of this distressing event, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of seeking medical intervention for mental health issues rather than relying on religious institutions. Problems of this nature should be addressed in a healthcare setting to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals involved.
